Matale District is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, with an area of 19,939 square kilometres, extending from 80.28 to 80.59 East longitude and 7.24 to 8.01 North latitude.
Matale District is bordered by Anuradhapura to the north, Polonnaruwa, Badulla and Ampara to the east, Kandy to the south and Kurunegala to the west.
The geographical conditions of this land, which are 1000 feet below sea level and 2000 feet above sea level, are characterized by the presence of mountain ranges such as Knuckles, Ovilikanda, Athipola, Makulussa, Pattagala, Dambulugala, Arangala, and the spectacular and beautiful environment with streams, rivers, and ravines flowing over those mountain ranges, and the climatic conditions ranging from 23 0C – 31 0C, which have made the Matale district a haven for local and foreign tourists. In addition, the Matale district can be introduced as a district that makes the strongest contribution to the strength of the country’s economy, providing various valuable mineral resources and all the resources necessary for human life, except salt.
